“Another amendment passed, another goal achieved for the community I represent. This time I wanted to think about the weakest group, very dear to me: the disabled. This specific category, in Reggio Calabria and its province, has been claiming for over a decade a right, which has remained unheard for too long, that of mobility via public service. A service that has so far been provided by local associations and families with their small but fundamental efforts. Through this further provision we intervene. This is why an amendment to the 2025 budget law signed by Cannizzaro will allocate 500 thousand euros to the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, funds that can be used immediately in 2025, tied to the purchase of 10 minibuses suitable for the transport of disabled people. It is specified that of these 10 means of transport, 3 will be in use in the urban area of the city of Reggio Calabria, while the other 7 will be divided one for each social territorial area of the Province, so as to be able to cover the entire territory according to needs of the various realities.”
This was communicated by the Hon. Francesco Cannizzaro, Deputy group leader of Forza Italia in the Chamber of Deputies and regional secretary of the party, busy in recent days with the work in Parliament for the approval of the state financial package.
“We are thus responding to a social need that should not even arise in a large and important reality like ours. I am reminded of the numerous appeals made over the years by local associations and private citizens, who have often drawn attention to a targeted public transport service, dedicated exclusively to disabled people and their logistical needs; service that Reggio Calabria is totally devoid of. So what better measure to obtain and allocate than one that is concrete and immediately achievable. Therefore, the Metropolitan City will be able to immediately purchase and put it into use. This will allow us to give a tangible response to a real and pressing need. Essentially, we thought about the here and now. Because what is needed are services and not welfare. I feel obliged to mention my party colleague and also a member of parliament from the Reggio area, Hon. Giovanni Arruzzolo, who contributed to the strategy for obtaining this important result.”
