«I was at the prison in Reggio Calabria today to meet Maysoon Majidithe Iranian-Kurdish activist detained on charges of being a trafficker. Maysoon was very emotional: she knows she is not alone and that there are many of us supporting her. Physically very tired, Maysoon weighs just 38kg, but she is determined to continue the fight to prove her innocence. She jealously preserves all the letters and postcards that arrived after the appeal launched together with Luigi Manconi and Marco Grimaldi for her birthday and that give her comfort. Maysoon Majidi risks being the victim of a huge judicial misunderstanding in a trial that started with the testimonies of two other migrants who had made the journey with her, translated in a very approximate way. For months, Maysoon was not notified of documents in a language she understood, thus compressing her right to defense. I trust that the judiciary will clarify this and other elements that risk spoiling the trial and ruining the life of a girl who escaped from an authoritarian regime in search only of protection and freedom”. She states Laura Boldrini PD member of parliament and President of the Permanent Committee of the Chamber on human rights in the world.
