Reggio, Municipality and Metro City are asking the Region for more resources against coastal erosion

More resources are needed to protect the city’s southern coast from the erosion that continues to advance. After the storms that have overturned the coastal border in recent weeks, the Municipality and Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria are asking the Region to allocate more funding for the area. The decision to act in synergy so that a more substantial contribution adequate to the state of the places and the looming risks arrives from Catanzaro was reached during an operational meeting held at Palazzo Alvaro, convened by the acting mayor Carmelo Versace at the request of the Metropolitan Councilor Giuseppe Marino: on the table is the emergency situation of Bocale I in the stretch immediately following Punta Pellaro. During the meeting, the critical situation generated following the recent storms that hit the seaside village in the southern area was analyzed in detail. From the joint analysis of the resources it emerged that the funding and interventions currently in place are insufficient to deal with the extraordinary nature of the latest events. For this reason, the Metropolitan City and the Municipality have agreed to forward a request for further funding to the Calabria Region, specifically to the Office of the Regional Commissioner for Coastal Protection.
