The man believed to be responsible for a fire that broke out in recent weeks in via Sbarre Inferiori, right in the city centre, has been identified and reported by the local police.
According to what was reconstructed by the officers at the end of a detailed investigative activity, the subject would have thrown waste containing still burning embers into a separate waste collection bin, quickly starting a fire of vast proportions.
The flames quickly destroyed four bins on the road, generating a highly dangerous situation for traffic and for the residents of the area. The fire in fact affected the facade of a building and touched the gas pipes serving the building, inhabited by several families.
The timely intervention of the local police and firefighters was decisive, making it possible to avoid much more serious consequences. The investigations, also supported by video surveillance images, made it possible to trace the license plate of the vehicle used by the alleged perpetrator. After further investigations and listening to people informed about the facts, the man was identified and summoned to the local police command “Macheda-Marino”.
At the end of the procedures, he was referred to the judicial authorities on charges of fire.
