Last December 4, the Romanian police authorities arrested a 46-year-old Romanian citizen, wanted under a European Arrest Warrant issued by the GIP of the Court of Palmi. The man is seriously suspected of mistreatment and sexual violence against his wife and minor daughter, episodes that would have been committed between 2011 and 2024.
The precautionary custody order is based on the results of an investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Rizziconi station, which brought to light a long series of violent and oppressive behaviour. According to what emerged, the man allegedly subjected his partner to repeated physical and verbal attacks, hitting her with kicks, punches and objects present in the house, on an almost weekly basis. These behaviors would have had a devastating impact on the woman’s physical, psychological and moral integrity.
The investigations also highlighted that the minor daughter was also the victim of violence. Not only did the young woman intervene several times to protect her mother, but on several occasions she was subjected to sexual attention from her father. In addition to these serious accusations, the man allegedly limited the personal freedom of the two women, ipreventing them from going out and maintaining contact with friends and family, accompanying these restrictions with constant threats.
Thanks to the careful investigative work of the Carabinieri, who reconstructed the suspect’s movements and identified his place of residence in Romania through the analysis of testimonies and traces on social networks, it was possible to request the issuance of the European Arrest Warrant. Romanian authorities tracked down and arrested the man during a roadside check.
The arrested person is currently detained in Romania, at the disposal of the competent local judicial authority, awaiting the procedures necessary for his extradition to Italy.
