The Court of Cassation, in accepting the appeal advanced by the lawyers Mario Santambrogio and Luca Agostino, annulled the sentence with which the Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria had convicted Gregrio Cacciola, a 46-year-old from Rosarno, for the crimes of extortion aggravated by the mafia method and private violence against some citizens of Rosarno. Cacciola had been arrested, together with numerous members of his family on 9 July 2018, as part of the police operation called “Ares”, as head of the Cacciola-Grasso mafia gang operating in the Rosarno area.
