The targeted coastal surveillance services by the State Police water scooters continue. In the past week, the patrolling of the “Sea Flying Squad” has concentrated along the eastern coast of the province, especially along the beaches of Letojanni, Giardini Naxos and Taormina. In total there were 87 people were checked and 21 vessels were inspected. In addition, 14 administrative sanctions were imposedand in particular one for fishing a quantity of fish greater than that permitted, one for having too many people on board a vessel, one for driving a vessel without a rental contract, one for driving a jet ski without a boating license and 10 sanctions for not wearing a protective helmet when driving a jet ski.

Finally, together with the Local Maritime Office of the Coast Guard of Giardini Naxos, the water scooter officers of the Messina Police Headquarters carried out the rescue of a seagull that, due to a broken wing, was stuck on a cliff in Giardini Naxos. Following the intervention, the bird was entrusted to an association that deals with animal protection.
