The drought situation in Sicily “represents a national emergency for which we are taking every action necessary to overcome critical issues that have emerged and been evident for years”. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matthew Salvini, answering a question time in the Chamber. «The ministry concluded the preliminary phase for the national plan of infrastructural interventions and for the safety of the water sector, last May 29, in the same session I presented a first part of the programming financed with approximately 950 million euros of resources from my ministry».

«A significant share is for Sicily, equal to approximately 10% and will concern 7 interventions for 92 million euros out of a total of 75 water works financed throughout Italy.. The session of the conference of the Regions scheduled for tomorrow, I hope, will give the agreement”, says Salvini. “At the same time, the extraordinary national commissioner – adds the minister – will propose a plan of urgent actions and interventions that obviously will have to have a short, very short term implementation period, given the emergency”.
