“Standard & Poor’s communicated the raising of the Sicilian region rating from BBB to BBB+with stable outlook. It is an extraordinary result, but above all a historical fact: we took Sicily with bbb- In less than a year, two leaps forward. This shows that the path of rehabilitation and relaunching started by my government is serious, credible and already recognized internationally ».
Thus President Renato Schifani comments on the new improvement of the credit merit attributed to the Region by the American agency, which comes a few months after the previous passage from BBB- to BBB, which took place in July 2024. “S&P Global Ratings recognized the progress of the regional economy and the effectiveness of the policies adopted, who have been able to enhance the special autonomy of Sicily, increase tax revenues and obtain greater state transfers. The containment of current expenditure and the increase in public investments is also fundamental.
The new rating – adds Schifani – certifies that Sicily is today a more solid, reliable and credible region. We have reduced the deficit, consolidated the accounts and placed the foundations for a lasting development. A special thanks goes to the general accountant Ignazio Tozzo, who in recent years with great competence has accompanied this virtuous path ».
The agency also highlighted the improvements in accounting governance, the greater timeliness in approving financial documents and the high liquidity available.
«All elements – concludes the president – who strengthen the position of the region on the market and in the eyes of investors. The prospects of the Sicilian economy are today more stable than ever, and its fundamentals ready to grow again, thanks to a responsible tax policy and a careful and rigorous debt management ».
