Strait of Messina, 29 beating bombs discovered between Punta and Capo Peloro: prohibitions of fishing and anchoring are triggered

The maritime authorities have issued an urgent order for the protection of public safety and the safety of navigation, following the discovery of 29 war devices on the seabed in an area included in the Strait of Messina, between the coastal resorts of Punta Piece and Capo Peloro.

Bellic residuals are located within an area between the following geographical coordinates (WGS 84 reference):

Point 1: lat. 38 ° 12.930 ‘n – Long. 015 ° 34.542 ‘e

Point 2: lat. 38 ° 13.362 ‘n – Long. 015 ° 34.542 ‘e

Point 3: lat. 38 ° 13.800 ‘n – Long. 015 ° 35.736 ‘e

Point 4: lat. 38 ° 13.194 ‘n – Long. 015 ° 37.236 ‘e

Point 5: lat. 38 ° 12.744 ‘n – Long. 015 ° 37.218 ‘e

The affected area therefore extends between the northeastern coast of Calabria and the northeastern one of Sicily, in one of the busiest and most strategic areas of the Strait. According to what is reported and as required by Annex 1 of the decree of 23 June 2008, n.128, the devices are partly part: within the precautionary area n.2 within the coastal traffic area “to” in the lane of navigation directed to the south in the navigation lane of north order.

Immediate prohibitions

Starting from the date of publication of the ordinance, the reported area is permanently buried with the following activities:

Anchoring of each type of naval unit unbutted diving unit, both for sports and professional purposes

Fishing, with the exception of traditional fishing of swordfish with harpoon, allowed exclusively in the portions of the sea not affected by further prohibitions

Penalties and responsibilities

Anyone who violates the provisions of the ordinance will be subject to administrative or criminal sanctions, based on the severity of the fact and the type of unit involved.
