Tension is rising for the working future of over 900 Calabrian precarious workers currently employed by the Ministries of Justice, Culture and Merit. In a joint press release, signed by the general secretary of Cisl Calabria, Giuseppe Lavia, by the member of the general secretary of Fp Cisl Calabria, Luciana Giordano, and by the general secretary of Cisl Scuola Calabria, Raffaele Vitale, the regional leaders of the union launched a heartfelt appeal to politics to avoid an imminent employment crisis.

Upcoming deadlines and employment risk

The timetable of contractual deadlines leaves no room for hesitation. The first at risk are the Cultural Heritage operators, whose fixed-term contracts will expire on March 1st. In the following weeks, the same fate will befall judicial workers and staff working in the school sector.

These are workers who have experienced a long journey of uncertainty: after years of internships without rights, they obtained an initial part-time contract two years ago, which was subsequently extended for a further year.

The union’s demands: stabilization or extension

The general secretaries underline the importance of not dispersing the skills acquired by these professional figures. The CISL proposes two ways to safeguard workers:

  • Stabilization: the introduction of a rule that commits the competent Ministries to bind the resources necessary for the definitive hiring.
  • Extension: alternatively, the granting of a further 12 months of contract, as already requested by the National Secretariats.

Appeal to politics and institutions

The union addressed the Calabrian parliamentary delegation directly, the Calabria Region and the President Roberto Occhiuto. The declared objective is to find concrete solutions that can guarantee the professional future of every single worker involved.

“We trust in the commitment of those parliamentarians and those political forces who have worked hard on this dispute in recent years”, concludes the trade union note, reiterating that the absolute priority remains the defense of every job.
