«We are now used to attacks of this type, even from various political forces. This is a very dangerous delegitimization operation”. Alessandra Maddalena, vice president of the National Association of Magistratestakes stock with Huffington Post after the Behind the scenes of the newspaper on a possible investigation on Arianna Meloni. «Once again – Maddalena began – they want to make the judiciary appear interested and biased. They want to make people believe that magistrates exercise their function for political purposes. By doing so, a part of the State is weakened and there is the risk that citizens will no longer trust the judiciary. In this specific case, then, statements were made without any reference to concrete facts. These are theses, as far as we know, based on nothing”.
The government-judge tension? “It’s been there for decades. Beyond the case we’re talking about, for which there is no evidence, it’s normal that when the judiciary, in the exercise of its functions, comes into contact with politics, tensions are generated. It’s always been like this and all things considered it’s not something to be surprised about. What is surprising, however, is that we continue, in attacking the judiciary, to hypothesize plots hatched by the latter against one or the other political party. Even that it is hypothesized that agreements are made to bring down a government. These attacks, matured for political reasons, end up harming democracy”. The vice president of the ANM
denies that the inquiries into politicians that have come to nothing are proof of their speciousness: “When it comes to the acquittal of a politician – he concludes – there are those who say that the investigation was done badly, or that it was done for political purposes, when it comes to the conviction, the opposing political party says the opposite. But the pronouncements of acquittal do not mean that there was a political use of the investigations. And in any case, to criticize a proceeding, one should read the entire sentence, not just base oneself on the outcome”. (AGI)
Foti: “Attempt to taint the vote on Arianna Meloni”
“It seems quite clear to me that there is an attempt to taint the elections when, instead of attacking President Meloni on a political level, which would be legitimate and proper on the part of the press and the opposition, we have noticed an obsessive and compulsive attitude and a series of insinuations against Arianna Meloni”. This is what the FdI group leader in the Chamber, Tommaso Foti, observed in an interview with La Stampa. “In the face of denials, we continue to relaunch the hoaxes and say that Arianna Meloni ‘influences the nominations’ – he added – These accusations easily lead to influence peddling, which is a crime. If someone has this attempt in their head, if lobbyists, businessmen, politicians in liquidation and some judges seeking notoriety have envisioned this plan, they can resign themselves: not only do they not scare us, but they will not pass”. On a possible FI-centre-left axis on the ius scholae, Foti comments: «I don’t fear it, the centre-left’s position is instrumental and this is made clear by the fact that they say they are for the Ius soli, but then they push forward the Ius scholae because they hope it can be approved. It seems to me a somewhat Garibaldian way of reasoning». And on the possibility that Vannacci founds a party he observes: «All observers converge in saying that there is an electoral space in the centre, I doubt that there could be many to our right».
Prime Minister Meloni: “Squalid and desperate moves against Arianna”
“If it were true that they have now moved on to the mud machine and the construction of theorems at the table in the hope of some imaginative investigation against the people closest to me, starting with my sister Arianna, it would be very serious”. This was stated by Giorgia Meloni contacted by telephone by Ansa. “But ultimately it would also be a good sign, because these squalid and desperate moves by the worst politicians would only mean that we are dismantling the system of interests that has held Italy hostage for too many years. So, let’s move forward with our heads held high, with even greater determination”, added the prime minister.
