Differentiated autonomy and merging of municipalities. The second day in Lorica, in Sila, dedicated to the annual assembly of Anci Calabria, developed on these two important political “fronts”. There were also few mayors who went up to the cool mountain air yesterday morning, despite the fact that several panels and many interventions were scheduled, before the final Council. In the end it was decided to postpone the announced joint document to next Friday 19th July when the Council of Anci Calabria will meet in the regional headquarters of Lamezia Termein order to formulate a single proposal on differentiated autonomy. The Council has given the president of Anci Calabria, Rosaria Succurro, the mandate to interact with each member in order to find a position as united as possible regarding the law on differentiated autonomy.
Overall, at the first Regional Assembly of Anci Calabria 296 mayors participated and nine round tables were held with observations, testimonies of good administrative practices and proposals on various topics: digital transition and prevention of cybercrime; energy efficiency; social policies; environment and water resources; differentiated autonomy; union, merger and dissolution of municipalities; enhancement and strengthening of human resources in local authorities; sport as a tool for health protection; agriculture, trade, tourism and peculiarities of villages. The mayors of provincial capitals Nicholas Flowery (Catanzaro), Franz Caruso (Cosenza), Joseph Falcomata (Reggio Calabria), Vincent Voice (Crotone), Enzo Romeo (Vibo Valentia) preferred to anticipate the heated debate with a detailed press release in which they propose to the association of Calabrian mayors to ask the president of the regional council and government either for an abrogative referendum following the example of Campania, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Puglia and Sardinia or to challenge the “Calderoli” before the Constitutional Court, not in its entirety, but on specific points.
