«A media storm, no one knows for what reasons, was unleashed against one of the most productive Orthopedics departments in the Region; Until Thursday evening I operated on a patient from the province of Cosenza together with my team. From Sunday 1st February I will be retired, I am working regularly until the last day, also because I have not taken any remaining holidays even though I was entitled to them by law. The Orthopedics department of Polistena that I leave on February 1st, in which I have put 17 years of sacrifices, cannot be destroyed by controversy. Throwing mud, it is not clear why, on a production department, an excellence of Calabrian public health, creates unjustified alarmism in the population.”
Doctor Antonino Laganà, until now head of the Orthopedics and Traumatology department of the Polistena hospital, denies the alarm of the spontaneous health protection committee by specifying first of all that he has not requested early retirement: «I am retiring because I have reached all the maximum legal requirements, starting with length of service».
