«The Messina Polyclinic cannot continue to exist without stable leadership. For this reason we have presented a parliamentary question to the President of the Region and to the regional health councilor to find out what urgent initiatives they intend to adopt to proceed with the appointment of the new general director of the university hospital”. This was declared by the member of the South and the North, Giuseppe Lombardo, the first signatory of the inspection act signed together with his colleagues Cateno De Luca and Matteo Sciotto.

Over three months without a director after two resignations

«After the resignation of Giorgio Giulio Santonocito, which occurred last January, and that of Salvatore Iacolino the following March – adds Lombardo – the Messina Polyclinic still finds itself today without a general director. A situation that has been going on for over three months now and which risks having a negative impact on healthcare planning, the implementation of investments and the full operation of one of the most important hospital structures in Sicily.”

«A strategic support for assistance, training and research»

«We are talking – observes the ScN exponent – of a strategic support not only for healthcare, but also for university education and research. It is therefore necessary for the regional government to ensure stable and authoritative governance in the shortest possible time, capable of guaranteeing administrative continuity and effective responses to citizens and healthcare workers”.

The request to the Schifani government: certain times and no delays

With the question, the parliamentarians from South calls North ask to «know the reasons that have so far prevented the appointment of the new general director and the times within which the regional executive intends to complete the procedure, avoiding further delays that could compromise the achievement of the strategic objectives of the university hospital of Messina». «The Messina healthcare system – concludes Lombardo – cannot afford uncertainties or decision-making gaps. It’s time for the Schifani government to provide clear answers and quickly take the necessary decisions.”
