The monument dedicated to the captain in Vibo Valentia was vandalized Christmas De Graziaofficer of the Coast Guard, gold medal of Navy merit and victim of duty, who died in circumstances still to be clarified while investigating, on behalf of the Reggio Calabria prosecutor’s office, the trafficking of radioactive waste on board merchant ships in the Mediterranean. The monument was installed last summer on the Vibo Marina seafront. The vandals acted during the night hours sending the upper part of the monument depicting an anchor was shattered.
The Belvedere on the seafront of Vibo Marina, with the inauguration of the monument, bears the name of Captain De Grazia and its dedication was made official during the evening of August 27th desired by the municipal administration of Vibo Valentia. De Grazia’s son, Roberto, also participated in the ceremony and, with his voice breaking with emotion, had read the plaque dedicated to his father: «To Commander De Grazia who with his investigative acumen, following the traces of evil, he sacrificed himself for the love of this land and this sea.”
