The action of the Municipality of Vibo Valentia continues with determination against acts of incivility that disfigure the territory and put the environment at risk. In the last ten days, thanks to an intense control activity conducted jointly by the local police and the operators of the Muraca company, under the direction of the Environment Department, numerous sanctions have been imposed on those responsible for the illegal abandonment of waste on public land. The video surveillance cameras, installed in strategic points of the city, made it possible to clearly identify the perpetrators and the vehicles involved, in particular in the areas of the Feudotto district and Via degli Artigiani, sensitive areas due to the presence of ecological islands. Furthermore, the local police also makes use of private video surveillance systems, which prove invaluable in identifying offenders. The sanctions foreseen for those who abandon waste are severe: fines of up to 1,500 euros, criminal charges and, in cases where the offense is committed by vehicle, the withdrawal of the driving license for one to four months. Attention remains high also in other urban areas, such as via De Luca, recently subject to targeted checks, similarly to what has already happened in via Froggio.

The mayor of Vibo Valentia, Enzo Romeo, invites citizens to collaborate in respecting the environment and urban decorum: “Repressive action is important, but awareness-raising activities are fundamental. It is necessary for each of us to understand that dirtying and polluting is not only wrong and against the law, but not even necessary. The administration is always available to meet everyone’s needs, we have a service that works and that we work every day to improve, and we do not want to accept having to witness situations unseemly.” The Councilor for the Environment, Marco Miceli, recalls that, overall, the percentage of separate waste collection has now reached extremely flattering results that are close to 80% for the year 2025, but invites us not to lower our guard: “The administration’s commitment to protecting the environment continues to be maximum. However, we invite citizens to collaborate by respecting the rules for the correct disposal of waste and the most basic rules of civil life, also because our activity of control is increasingly intense and makes use of the aid of technologies that allow us not to leave uncivilized people unpunished”.
