The first shock, the most significant, occurred at 16:20:28 UTC (17:20:28 Italian time) and reached a magnitude ML 3.7. The epicenter was located approximately 4 kilometers south-west of Militello Rosmarino (ME), with geographical coordinates 38.0173 latitude and 14.6467 longitude, at a depth of 9 kilometers. This is an event of moderate intensity, potentially felt by the population in the neighboring municipalities, especially on the upper floors of the buildings.
A few minutes later, at 16:22:37 UTC (17:22:37 Italian time), a second earthquake of magnitude ML 2.8 was recorded, with an epicenter approximately 5 kilometers south-west of Alcara Li Fusi (ME). In this case the geographical coordinates are 37.9958 latitude and 14.6605 longitude, while the estimated depth is 8 kilometers.
