The “Notebooks of Regalpetra”: if Sciascia’s legacy grows and relives

The word thought, called and written, the word that scrutinizes the world since in its depths, the word that targeted and strikes when it is necessarythat from the Observatory of Critical City Demistification, also, or perhaps above all, at the cost of being uncomfortable, and illuminates every darkness by discovering lies and imposture. It is the word of Leonardo SciasciaDioscuro of literature together with his friend Pier Paolo Pasolini, among the greatest intellectuals, thinkers and writers of the twentieth century. The scarce one is, as has been said, a historical and literary paradox, so despite having dealt with his time (but certainly in many things, preconating the time to come acute with acuteness) continues with the passage of time to be current and to expand. Merit of the always alive sciascian studies, of the Sciascia Foundation of Racalmuto and of a precious necklace, born on the initiative of the Foundation, published by the Calabrian publisher Rubbettino, always careful to keep the memory alive, and edited by Vito Catalano, grandson of Sciascia: the “Notebooks of Regalpetra”, who proposes to present books linked to Leonardo Sciascia, a small library that widens drawing on essays, studies, correspondence, articles written about him in many decades.
For our own memory, this expanding of Sciascia’s memory through its profound culture and through its intense human and cultural relationships is truly precious. The nine volumes are witnessed to date published by Rubbettino, well -kept since the colorful editorial guise (each with the image of an author’s painting on the cover).

“A hero to forget” of the lawyer and writer Salvatore Falzone investigates the mystery of Antonio Canepa, a controversial figure of the early twentieth century, anti -fascist and theoretical conspirator of fascism, of which Sciascia was interested in which however renounced the biographical project considering him a character “full of ambitions and mythomanias”. «Of Sondhal, Spain, Pirandello. And of me. Carteggio between Leonardo Sciascia and Marialuisa Aguirre D’Amico, 1971-1989 “of the teacher and literary critic Pietro Milone, retraces the intense epistolary and literary exchange between the nephew of Pirandello (daughter of Lietta) and Sciascia, who through the common pirandelian” inheritance “find common interests and readings. “The trial”, of the magistrate Luigi Cavallaro, starts from the trial of Sergio Cusani to the times of Tangentopoli and concerns the trial of the entire Italian political class of which Sciascia and Pasolini discussed, before the assassination of Pasolini and before the kidnapping and assassination of Aldo Moro.

And again of justice, the theme of the whole life of Sciascia, we speak in «Post scriptum. Investigation of the small judge of open doors »by the journalist and writer Mario Genco, who reflects on a judicial case of 1937 to which Sciascia was inspired by” open doors “and who had as protagonist a judge of Racalmuto, Salvatore Petrone.
We know that with Spain and his culture Sciascia had a strong link, and the Spanish writer and journalist Alejandro Luque in “Fear of the recorder” recalls the frequent relationships of Sciascia with the Spanish press through the stories of prominent figures of Spanish journalism they met and interviewed Sciascia. And, again, Antonio Motta, a lover of the work of the writer of Racalmuto and founder in San Marco in Lamis of the Leonardo Sciascia Sciascia-Archive of the twentieth century documentation, collects in “in the footsteps of Leonardo Sciascia” short essays in which the figure of Sciascia is always present. In the appendix the letters that Sciascia wrote to Motta between 1976 and 1989.
“Power and memory” by Alessandro Secomandi, a scholar of Hispano-American literatures, tells of the friendship between the journalist-editor and Mexican essayist Federico Campbell and Leonardo Sciascia, friendship born since Campbell (1941-2014) after reading Sciascia’s novels, wanted to know him in person by going to Palermo in 1985. focused on issues of common interest, from politics to power, from society to memory.

And he is still a journalist, the English Ian Thomson, who in “A conversation in Palermo with Leonardosciacia” tells of the journey that made from Rome to Palermo in 1985 to meet Sciascia: from that exceptional meeting and from the letters that the two exchanged was born the story -reports published on the London Magazine of 1987 and re -proposed here with the translation of the Racalmutese angalmute area.
