An enlightened and kind figure of Palermo culture disappears. The publisher-bookseller Sergio Flaccovio has died. He had inherited the legacy of his father Salvatore Fausto, protagonist of a history of cultural promotion that left many traces.
Flaccovio’s father had started his business in 1938 with the opening of a bookshop in via Ruggero Settimo, which became an important cultural circle especially between the 1960s and 1980s. It had quickly become the point of reference for many exponents of the world of literature, art and journalism such as Enzo Sellerio, Dacia Maraini, Michele Perriera, Cesare Zavattini, Indro Montanelli, Bruno Caruso, Mario Soldati, Nino Buttitta, Denis Mack Smith. In the 1950s the bookshop was also frequented by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa.
Once he established himself as a bookseller, Flaccovio senior decided to expand his cultural activity. The bookshop also became an art gallery and a publishing house. Among the series of the publisher Flaccovio many essays and monographs, all the works of Luigi Natoli, cultural publications such as the refined magazine «Sicilia» to which many literary figures collaborated and the series of volumes on Sicilian history supported by the Sicilian Parliament.
