The Spring of Cinema – he declares Giuseppe Citrigno – was stopped in 2016, holding an institutional position I decided to temporarily set aside the event which today, thanks also to the contribution and support of the Calabria Film Commission, restarts with a program full of events. Next to me is a long-time friend, as well as an exceptional artistic director: Massimo Galimberti».
«Through this festival we will try to tell the new narrative of Italian cinema, a cinema that returns to the roots, to the recovery of historical memory, where places, territories become not only the frame of the films but an integral part of the story. We have chosen to propose – explains artistic director Galimberti – five Italian films by as many great directors who this year obtained the “best film” nomination at the latest edition of the David di Donatello. We consider them the best of Italian cinema and represent the rebirth of our sector after the sad period caused by the pandemic. They are the new Spring of Italian Cinema.”
Calabria will obviously not be missing from this tale of Italian cinema, an open-air set, appreciated by national and international productions which have looked at the region with extreme interest in recent years. Supporting the artistic director is an exceptional artistic committee: the screenwriter Nicola Guaglianonedirector Mimmo Caloprestijournalists and film critics Enrico Magrelli and Boris Sollazzo. The president of the Committee will be the director of the new Experimental Center of Mediterranean Arts (CeSAM), Marcello Foti, former general director of the Experimental Center of Cinematography of Rome.
