Around three hundred people belonging to 60 brotherhoods, 20 of which from the Aeolian Islands: for the first time Lipari welcomed the 27th diocesan path of the brotherhoods. A day of aggregation and sharing lived in one of the most beautiful places in the Messina area, punctuated by various moments: the catechesis held by Don Vincenzo Majuri, archbishop’s delegate for the confraternities, on the first apostolic exhortation of Pope Leo IVX “Dilexi Te”, the solemn mass presided over by Archbishop Accolla in the co-cathedral of San Bartolomeo, the starting point of the journey that has concluded in the church of San Giuseppe in Marina Corta. The diocesan interconfraternal center chaired by Carmelo Bertolami will lead the procession. The underlying theme of the initiative is the value of charity which in the encyclical Pope Leo, taking up what his predecessor wrote, delves into by talking about service to the poor and the tragedies of the current time such as the economy that kills, the lack of equity, gender violence, malnutrition, the educational emergency. Making Bergoglio’s appeal his own, Pope Prevost asks to “make a voice heard that denounces” because “the structures of injustice must be destroyed with the force of good”. A commitment that actualizes the mission of the confraternities, as Mgr. Accolla has underlined several times when speaking of the responsibility to evangelize which must characterize the initiatives of sisters and confreres, even within religious events linked to popular piety.
