There is a hidden Taorminamade not only of breathtaking views, but also of words, memories and literary suggestions. This is the city that Alfio Bonaccorso, Taobuk executive director, tells in his “Taormina” (in the Dogana passages by Giulio Perrone Editore), dialoguing on June 23 at 7pm at Palazzo Corvaja with the journalist Andrea Giuseppe Cerra. Not a literary guide, rather An emotional and cultural map of the citya tribute to the stories that contributed to building the identity of Taormina very identity, well before (and better) of contemporary tourist strategies.
From his privileged observatory, Bonaccorso realized he had to fill a void: to explain Taormina through the eyes of those who lived and described itnot only for beauty but out of expressive, curative, spiritual necessity, and whose traces had to be recovered. «The book is a diptych in which the temporal dimension merges with the geographical one, following, through twelve itineraries, the traces left by famous authors, often little known in their link with that place.
This is the case of Ernest Hemingway who sets one of his story, “The mercenaries”, right in Taormina; This is also the case of Steinbeck who dedicated wonderful pages to San Domenico». «It is an intimate and reflection space for some, as it was for Steinbeck during a creative crisis, and a large cosmopolitan living room for others, such as Truman Capote; o hiding place for a Greta grace on the path of sunset. The book is a room of wonders, in which every object, author, anecdote, contributes to recomposing an identity mosaic ».
“In Taormina” arrives in a special moment for Giulio Perrone Editore, who turns twenty: will be discussed on 23 to 20 in Piazza IX Aprile. An important milestone for a reality born with the aim of giving space to new voices, original visions and non -discounted publishing paths. “They were twenty years intense, spent quickly – says Giulio Perrone – In this time we tried to build a living catalog, capable of mixing established and debutants, different genres and editorial projects that knew how to tell the present, but also look further. The relationship with Taormina and Taobuk is now a sort of twinning. For us it is a pride to be here with a book that embodies our idea of publishing: culture that arises from a place, from an intuition, from a true and profound research ».
