The wave of bad weather that gave eastern Sicily no respite for two days should ease. Starting from midnight and until midnight today, the weather alert level in the province of Messina will be colored yellow. Although storms and adverse weather conditions are expected to continue, their intensity is expected to be lower than in recent days. However, the risk of critical issues remains high, especially in vulnerable areas.
The weather warning, issued by the Civil Protection, underlines that the presence of infrastructures such as waterways and structurally inadequate sewerage networks, together with the proximity of areas subject to hydrogeological and hydraulic instability, could make conditions more serious. “The critical issues could manifest themselves in a more serious manner regardless of the expected and/or actual quantities of rain”, warns the documentinviting maximum attention from local authorities and citizens.
Schools reopen after two days of closure
In the context of the precautionary measures adopted, many schools in the Ionian area, which had remained closed for two consecutive days due to the orange alert, will reopen, barring further updates that could lead to last minute changes.
Local authorities invite the population to maintain high vigilance, especially in case of heavy rains or sudden changes in climatic conditions. It is recommended to avoid areas at risk, such as peripheral roads and areas at risk of landslides, and follow the instructions of the Civil Protection to guarantee everyone’s safety.
The yellow alert, although at a lower level than the critical issues of recent days, remains a sign of attention. Experts recommend staying updated through official channels and adopting prudent behavior in the event of extreme weather phenomena.
