Deferred in a state of freedom to Tortora, by the Carabinieri of the Diamante and Praia a Mare stations, a 37-year-old found in possession, in a warehouse he owns, of illegal explosive artefacts and pyrotechnic devices. The operation carried out by the two departments is part of a broader service aimed at supervising the production, trade and possession of pyrotechnic devices: all these controls are therefore aimed at ensuring the lawful marketing and correct use of pyrotechnic articles on the occasion of holidays.
In the early afternoon of December 23rd the soldiers entered a warehouse in Tortora where they had found, hidden in a box, 35 illegal explosive artefacts of a homemade nature without any identifying sign with a total weight of 7.5 kg, of which 4.3 kg of gunpowder. The search activity was extended to the entire premises and, as a result of the operations, another 3 pyrotechnic devices belonging to the F2 category with a total weight of 1.5 kg were recovered. The latter, subjected to criminal seizure, were entrusted for safekeeping to a specialized company while for the first 35 artefacts the intervention of the Anti-sabotage Bomb Squad of the Investigation Unit of the Carabinieri Operations Department of Cosenza was necessary. This department, having ascertained the danger of the casings, proceeded to have them shined in a disused quarry in a safety setting.
The proceeding is still in the preliminary investigation phase, therefore the suspect is to be considered presumed innocent until a definitive finding of guilt with an irrevocable sentence.
