28 victims in 2024 on SS 106

“Pasquale – reports the Odv Basta Vittime sulla 106 – is the twenty-eighth victim of the SS106 in the year 2024 after Antonella Romeo (18 years old), Elisa Pelle (24), Teresa Giorgi (34), Domenico Romeo (27), Salvatore Mattia Porto (21), Alfredo Aleardi (32), Maurizio Docimo (65), Marco Pezzati (31), Carlo Carrai (65), Gabriella Laganà (76), Francesca Stornello (53), Alessio Legato (30), Salvatore Mustara ( 44), Maria Rosa Boccuti (40), Eugenio Lupo (28), Luigi Frustaci (24), Antonio Simonetti (63), Domenica Palamara (58), Santina Palamara (51), Erminio Mendico (51), Umberto Graziano (39 ), Domenico Orlando (26), Raffaele Varano (29), Giuseppe Pio Cristiano (22), Luigi Scumaci (23), Chiara Olivo (63) and Assunta Migliazza (43 years old).

One victim every 11 days. 11 victims in the province of Catanzaro. 8 victims in the province of Reggio Calabria and 7 in the province of Cosenza. 2 victim in the province of Crotone. This is the war bulletin on the infamous “road of death in 2024, a year which rightfully ranks among the worst in the last ten years in terms of road deaths and which to date sees an increase of 6 victims compared to 2023. Among all it also affects the province of Catanzaro: it goes from 3 victims in 2023 to 11 (more than triple) in 2024.

The year, 2024, in which ACI-Istat data reveals a disheartening fact for Calabria: it is the region in which, during 2023, the greatest increase in victims of road accidents in Italy was recorded. In fact, a total of 109 people died, compared to 74 in 2022. Calabria is also the region in which, again during 2023, the highest increase was detected, in percentage terms, in accidents with deaths or injured, which were, overall, 3,114, with an increase of 47 percent compared to the previous year. No region of Italy has recorded such dramatic data. Faced with these numbers we ask ourselves what else is needed to remove the current managers of Anas Spa in Calabria…

The Volunteer Organization “Enough Victims on the State Road 106” intends to reiterate and underline that all this represents the largest state massacre in the history of the Italian Republic and also intends to highlight that what has unfortunately always happened on the SS106 has clear and obvious political responsibilities: the silence and indifference of the national and regional government, of the Calabrian parliamentary class in Rome, of the local and provincial administrations, of the trade union forces. Everyone, without exception, those who hold institutional roles, are morally responsible for the holocaust on the SS106 and in particular those who still claim that the construction of the Bridge over the Strait represents an “infrastructural priority” for Calabria.

The “Basta Vittime Sulla Strada Statale 106” Association rallies around the family of the victims, relatives and friends, to whom we express feelings of closeness and condolences. We will not forget these lives broken on the asphalt of the “most dangerous road in Italy”. We will not remain indifferent and silent in the face of yet another tragedy on an increasingly serial killer street in Calabria and Italy. The “road of death”, we will never tire of repeating it, represents the largest state massacre in the history of the Italian Republic”.
