The restyling of the Via Milano station, the mobility services integrated with the surface metro, the works to bypass the via Lenza bridge in Gagliano, the redevelopment of the former Santa Maria station for social purposes. The discussion chaired by the mayor Nicola Fiorita with the general director of Ferrovie della Calabria, Ernesto Ferraro, the councilor for public works Pasquale Squillace with the coordinator of the technical area Giovanni Laganà, technicians and managers of Fdc and AMC, was a substantial one, to take stock of the projects and construction sites affecting urban roads in Catanzaro. Also present was the city councilor responsible for mobility, Gregorio Buccolieri.

Starting from the complete renovation of the central station in via Milano which, with an important regional investment, will be affected by the construction of two buildings, pedestrian passages and lifts, in order to improve and expand the usability of the entire area. The works will presumably start next January and will require specific traffic measures to guarantee the safety of the construction site and, at the same time, relieve traffic congestion. To this end, it was agreed that bus access to the Via Milano bus station will be specifically limited and that part of the square can also be used for resident parking.

At the beginning of the new year, the other eagerly awaited innovation will be the activation of line A of the surface metro, along the direct route via Milan-Lido. AMC and Ferrovie della Calabria are working to define a plan that can guarantee the best possible service, through the integration of road and rail transport, so as to ensure functional connections with the individual metro stops and adequate coverage of the routes not covered by it. Further solutions were also discussed to avoid the transit of extra-urban buses towards the city and the need to establish an integrated ticket that favors users: topics that will soon also be brought to the attention of the Calabria Region.

Another point of the meeting was the property of the former Santa Maria station which was included among the redevelopment interventions within the new Urban Agenda. Therefore, all the administrative steps must be defined as soon as possible in order to start the planning of the intervention which involves the recovery of the space as a place of social aggregation.

Last topic, the ongoing project which will allow us to overcome the historic inconveniences in Gagliano linked to traffic on the bridge of via Lenza with the creation of a connection on via Orti. As the works approached, the municipal administration and Calabria Railways started the phase of coordinating the operations to ensure the most suitable technical solutions to guarantee the continuity of services and complementarity with the existing railway route.
