A massive Russian drone attack hit the Odessa region overnight, causing damage to civilian infrastructure, in particular the transport system. The Ukrainian media reported it, while the local authorities spoke of an effective air defense response.

According to what was communicated on Telegram by the head of the Odessa regional military administration, Oleh Kiper, most of the enemy targets were shot down by the Air Defense Forces of Ukraine.

Damage to the railway and fires

«The administrative structures of the railway station in the Odessa region were damaged – wrote Kiper -. A railway tank was also hit repeatedly, resulting in fuel leaking and burning. The fires have been put out.”

The attack also caused a fire on the roof of an abandoned single-storey building, which was quickly put out by emergency services.

Shock wave and blackout

The head of the city’s military administration, Serhii Lysak, reported that in one of the neighborhoods the shock wave damaged the windows of residential buildings and educational institutions. At the moment, however, there are no casualties or injuries.

The Odessa City Council also reported an emergency power outage in the water supply systems. As a result, several areas of the city – Kiev, Primorsky, Khadzhybeisky and part of Peresypsky – remained without water. The technicians are working to restore electricity, a necessary condition for the normalization of the water service.

Air defense in action

The electricity supply situation also remains complex in other regions of the country, including Kiev, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk. Overall, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the air defense neutralized 55 of the 83 drones launched by Russia from Saturday evening until the early hours of today.

A new attack that confirms the intensity of the raids on civilian infrastructure and the centrality of air defense in the protection of the main Ukrainian cities.
