Five people died when a small private plane crashed near a highway in Nashville, in the US state of Tennessee.
According to the local police department, the victims were all on board the aircraft which caught fire in the crash. The pilot reported engine and electrical system failure and was cleared for an emergency landing at Nashville's John C. Tune Airport, but crashed a few miles short of the runway.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have opened an investigation into the accident.
