Ten confirmed victims and numerous injured. This is the provisional toll of a vast fire that has a 14-storey skyscraper in the Campanar district of Valencia destroyed.
The flames broke out yesterday afternoon on the eighth floor of the building for reasons still under investigation and due to the strong wind they quickly spread to the nearby tower. Around 350 people live in the building in 140 apartments
Numerous residents, including a father and his daughter who remained on a balcony for two hours, were trapped for a long time in the upper floors of the building and were taken to safety by firefighters. According to an initial reconstruction by the firefighters, the insulating material on the buildings built 15 years ago would have favored the rapid development of the fire, even without the fire prevention systems having been activated. The dynamics of the disaster is very similar to that of the fire in the Grenfell skyscraper in London in 2017 and the Torre dei Moro in Milan. Messages of closeness to the victims arrived from all institutional leaders in the country.
