The Supreme Court rejects the appeal of the District Attorney’s Office: 41 bis Francesco Bruno stay free. The defense argument of the lawyers was accepted Salvatore Staiano And Antonio Lomonaco.
The man had been involved in the Scolacium operation, the investigation which involved the alleged mafia leader of the Vallefiorita clan of the same name, who extended his tentacles into the territories of Amaroni, Squillace and Squillace Lido, not disdaining to put pressure on beach and tourist establishments.
Last February the alleged boss was arrested on the orders of the Catanzaro investigating judge together with 19 other people and was subsequently transferred from prison and placed under the 41 bis (hard prison) regime.
The precautionary order initially withstood the scrutiny of the Court of Freedom but, a few months later, it was annulled by the Sixth Section of the Cassation which, upholding the appeal advanced by the lawyers Staiano and Lomonaco, ordered a new trial.
Following the outcome of the new council session, the Court of Freedom of Catanzaro annulled the precautionary order ordering the immediate release of the suspect.
This time it was the District Attorney’s Office that appealed against this provision to the Supreme Court, thus insisting on the return of the alleged boss to prison.
Today the Second Section of the Cassation, at the request of the lawyers Salvatore Staiano and Antonio Lomonaco, rejected the appeal of the Prosecutor’s Office, thus cdefinitively confirming the precautionary release measure.
A few weeks ago the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the capital notified the closure of the preliminary investigations against 27 people, accused in various capacities of crimes relating to damage, weapons, drugs, extortion and mafia-style criminal association.
