“We cannot allow our foreign policy in the Middle East to be subservient to the State of Israel.” JD Vance takes a stand on one of the most delicate and divisive issues in American politics and tests himself as a candidate for the White House. The vice president’s statements come as the House once again calls on Donald Trump to end the war in Iran or obtain congressional authorization.
“We have many important partnerships in NATO, but this does not mean that we will completely make our European foreign policy subservient to NATO, just as we cannot allow our foreign policy in the Middle East to be subservient to the State of Israel,” Vance said. «We will collaborate with people when necessary. And we will pursue America’s interests. This is the only way to have a rational foreign policy.”
The relationship with Israel and the survey for 2028
Words that sound like a manifesto in view of the 2028 presidential elections. The YouGov-Bowling Green State University poll assigns Vance 44% of the preferences among the Republican candidates, against 21% for Secretary of State Marco Rubio and 8% for Donald Trump Jr.
However, the vice president specified that Israel “is an important partner in terms of military technology and the sharing of intelligence information”, adding however that “sometimes the United States does not agree with Israel”. Already in June the former senator from Ohio had warned his ally that he had few friends left and that he should think carefully before antagonizing Washington.
Vance also praised Trump for distancing himself from Benjamin Netanyahu, calling him the only president in the last forty years willing to acknowledge differences with the Israeli prime minister: “Bibi is a good partner, but Bibi and I have a different opinion on this,” or “Bibi is right from Israel’s point of view, but the American people need us to take a different direction.”
The House votes to stop the war in Iran
Meanwhile, the House, with a Republican majority, approved with 220 votes in favor and 204 against a measure that requires Trump to put an end to the war in Iran or request authorization from Congress. Seven Republicans voted along with the Democrats.
It is the third time that the Chamber has asked the president to stop the conflict with symbolic measures. It is unclear whether the Senate will consider the resolution before November: a similar measure, approved by the House in July, has not yet been considered by the upper house.
The vote highlights the discontent with the conflict against Tehran and Israel even among the Republican ranks, in view of the mid-term elections.
Washington Post: bombs to Israel worth 2.8 billion dollars
Meanwhile, as revealed by the Washington Post, the Trump administration is preparing a sale to Israel of 2,000-pound bombs, approximately 900 kilograms: the largest single supply of this type of munition in recent years.
The package, worth $2.8 billion and financed with American taxpayer funds, includes 40,000 bombs, including 20,000 MK-84s and 20,000 BLU-117s, as well as 20,000 I-2000 penetrating warheads. The transaction was notified to Congress only informally.
The MK-84 are among the most destructive munitions in Western military arsenals: in the explosion they project metal fragments for thousands of meters, they can pierce metal and thick layers of concrete and create vast craters in the ground.
