A circle with a blue background, with the white writing “Futuro Nazionale”, and underneath the yellow one “Vannacci”, all in block capitals, in a Littorio style font, with a tricolor wing (but it may also seem like a stylized flame) in the center: it is the symbol registered by Roberto Vannacci, with that name which for a few days has been bouncing around in rumors about the new party which the deputy secretary of the League could give life to in the future.
«It’s just a symbol, like that of the “World in reverse” and “Generazione Decima”», cuts the MEP short, who in just over two years, after the book that raised so much controversy, first became a Northern League MEP and then Matteo Salvini’s deputy.
At the European Patent Office, as can be seen from the website of the European Union Intellectual Property Network, the application for registration of the trademark was presented on 24 January, last Saturday, while the League was meeting in Abruzzo, from where Salvini launched a series of warnings, explaining that “outside the League there is a desert”, and that as “history teaches”, anyone who leaves the party “ends up in nothing”.
Words that were read, by Northern League members and others, also in light of the movements in Parliament, where at least two deputies, Edoardo Ziello and Rossano Sasso (who diverged from the group’s line on the resolution on Ukraine), are now considered “Vannacciani”. Not to mention that in Tuscany, Vannacci’s land, the moves of other parliamentarians and regional and municipal councilors are viewed with suspicion.
The positions of the deputy secretary have created discontent among several big league members in recent months, even if in the morning the party denied an article in the Corriere della sera in which it reported a phone call from Luca Zaia to Salvini to ask for Vannacci’s expulsion: «No phone call on internal dynamics within the League, no concerns about Vannacci, no request for expulsion».
The suspicion remains, widespread even among government allies, that the general is thinking of founding a party that would be the Italian version of Afd. Meanwhile, the ‘Futuro nazionalè’ trademark has been registered with a series of specific uses, to be used on «advertising posters, leaflets, poster books, advertising signs», for «services in the field of politics» among which are listed «organization of political demonstrations, political meetings; political campaign consultancy”, as well as for organizing community cultural events, conferences relating to cultural activities, conventions, and for t-shirts, sweatshirts and clothing.
