In a still festive atmosphere, the elected officials, with a certain advance, take their places in the City Council Chamber. Many new faces are ready to lend a hand to a mayor that the city, numbers in hand, wanted more than anything else. They are all impatiently awaiting the start of a council term that, however it goes, is destined to become a point of no return for the community of Vibo Valentia. A few minutes pass and, at the end of a long discussion in the privacy of the mayor’s room, even Enzo Romeo And Mary Limardofor that handover, which can no longer be postponed, two weeks after the electoral verdict. The ritual signatures, in the presence of the general secretary (whose future is far from certain at Palazzo “Luigi Razza”) and the Auditing Body, chaired by Tonino Daffinà. Not just a formality, therefore, the handover. But also a game of averted glances and smiles that meet. The mayor himself explains it, speaking of «an important but also emotional passage that makes you understand how important it is to be mayor of this city and what responsibilities you take on». From emotions to numbers it is a short step. The new mayor promises that everything will be clear in a first press conference but his words do not suggest a future, at least imminent, “roses and flowers”. «We will shortly clearly tell the city – Romeo points out – what the economic conditions of the Authority are and we will provide an extremely detailed picture of the debt». Romeo anticipates that «there are no resources, there is still a very balanced situation that we will have to keep under control for the next five years so that there are no negative results for the city». Short blanket but positive climate «inside the city hall with enthusiastic employees and managers». And the government team? The mayor sets a deadline, July 18the date of the first city council, “but I hope – he adds optimistically – to be able to present it even earlier. Besides, there are so many issues to address and I intend to share them as soon as possible – he specifies – with the rest of the team”.
