Many comments the day after the regional elections focused on the low voter participation of Calabrians. Also in light of the noticeable increase in abstentionism recorded in the recent regional elections of Tuscany and Marche, there have been worried comments on the functioning of democracy in the institutions without the electoral participation of the majority of citizens. In an attempt to offer an assessment of the level of electoral participation in our region, it must be said, first of all, that for 15 years and in four subsequent electoral rounds, abstentionism in Calabria has remained constant, around 44%. Not so in the other two regions that went to the vote the week before and the week after Calabria. In the Marche region abstentionism (49.9%) increased by 9.6 percentage points, in Tuscany (47.7%) by almost 15 points.
