Tomorrow, January 3, the 2026 winter sales will also kick off in Calabria, an event awaited by families and commercial businesses which, according to estimates developed by the Confcommercio Calabria studies, could generate an overall turnover of between 110 and 130 million euros.
In fact, it is estimated that between 450 and 500 thousand Calabrian families will make purchases during this period, with an average per capita expenditure of around 120 euros per person (220/240 euros per family), slightly lower than the national average, but in line with the trend of regional consumption.
The economic impact of the balances will not be uniform across the regional territory. The provinces with the greatest demographic and commercial weight will concentrate the most significant share of turnover:
-Cosenza: approximately 36% of the regional total, equal to 40–47 million euros
-Reggio Calabria: approximately 28%, equal to 31–38 million euros
-Catanzaro: approximately 18%, equal to 20–24 million euros
-Crotone and Vibo Valentia: approximately 9% each, equal to 10–12 million euros per province
The winter sales confirm the centrality of the fashion sector:
-Clothing: approximately 50% of the total turnover
-Footwear: approximately 25%
-Accessories: about 10%
-Home textiles and sporting goods: approximately 12% overall
-Other items: about 3%
«The sales represent a crucial moment for local trade – underlines Confcommercio Calabria – especially in a still complex economic phase, in which families and businesses have to deal with rising costs and growing selectivity in consumption. Supporting local shops means protecting employment, quality of supply, legality and social cohesion.”
Finally, Confcommercio Calabria draws attention to the importance of conscious and informed purchases, inviting consumers to verify the correctness of the discounts applied, the clarity of the prices and compliance with current regulations, being wary of irregular offers or incorrect practices. In fact, responsible consumer behavior contributes to preserving a healthy, transparent and competitive market, to the benefit of the entire regional economic system.
