A body was found at first light this morning on Cariati beach. The tragic discovery was made by a passer-by who, around 7 am, was walking his dog and raised the alarm. This is a man whose death dates back to a few weeks ago. The body may have been returned from the sea during the night.
Recognition
The Carabinieri and the Coast Guard intervened promptly on site. According to initial analyses, the body would be in a state of decomposition, although not advanced; would have calf injuries; he was wearing trousers and shoes, while his face was covered by a sweater, a factor that initially hindered identification. The visible somatic features suggest that it is a person with light skinprobably young or middle-aged. At the moment, the identity of the victim remains unknown. The authorities have already cross-referenced the data with reports of disappearances in the areas of Cariati, Corigliano and Crotonebut without finding any correspondence. There are also no reports of missing persons from the local fishing sector.
The investigations
The main hypothesis is that the body was transported by sea currents, perhaps in correlation with recent ones landings of migrants. We are currently awaiting the arrival of the medical examiner, arriving from Amantea (in charge of holiday shifts for the province of Cosenza). The mayor of Cariati was also on site, Cataldo Minòwhich follows the developments of the story closely.
