Jannik Sinner returns to the field today, expected at a hot noon at Roland Garros against the Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo (n. 56). Precisely for this reason, yesterday the South Tyrolean trained from 2pm to 4pm, the hottest hour. After making his debut in the evening session (beating Clement Tabur), the world number one will open the day session on the “Philippe-Chatrier”. Even yesterday the Parisian tournament was played in record heat – over 30 degrees – for a month of May in France. Also today and on the Chatrier, it will be Matteo Berrettini’s turn against Arthur Rindernkech at 8.15pm. Also on the pitch are Flavio Cobolli against Yibing Wu (first match from 11am on Court 7), Matteo Arnaldi against Stefanos Tsitsipas (fourth match from 11am on Court 14) and Luciano Darderi against Francisco Comesana (third match from 11am on Court 6).

Paolini eliminated

Jasmine Paolini’s race ended in pain and tears. Federico Cinà also bids farewell to Paris with the n.1 of Italian tennis, both eliminated. For Paolini it was a trip to Paris to forget, she who achieved the feat in 2024, overcoming all the rounds of the Porte d’Auteuil until the epic final on 8 June against the Polish Iga Swiatek (with the Polish woman winning the trophy). A feat that will forever remain written in the hearts of many Italians but which the Tuscan will not be able to repeat this year, defeated by the Argentine Solana Sierra who won in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-3). A match conditioned by foot problems for the Italian tennis player who had already given up on the doubles tournament for this reason: after winning the first set and losing the second, in the third the Tuscan, in pain and in tears, asked for the medical staff to intervene.

Sonego and Cinà also knocked out

Off the Parisian clay, Lorenzo Sonego was eliminated in the second round of Roland Garros. The Turin tennis player, fresh from a battle lasting over four hours with Herbert on his debut in Paris, surrenders in three sets to the American Tommy Paul. 6-3 6-2 6-4, in two hours and nine minutes of play, the score in favor of the number 24 seed, who in the third round will meet the winner of the match between Casper Ruud and Hamad Medjedovic. Also out is the 19-year-old from Palermo, n.238 ATP, Cinà, promoted from the qualifiers in his first career Slam main draw. Cinà was defeated in three sets (6-3, 6-1, 6-3) and just over an hour and three quarters of play by the Dutch Jesper De Jong (n.106), brought back into the scoreboard as the lucky loser.

Errani and Lilli Tagger instead passed the first round. On their debut in the doubles draw, after a convincing match especially by the Italian – who separated from Jasmine Paolini who preferred to concentrate on the singles -, they defeated the Americans Sofia Kenin and Ashlyn Krueger 6-3, 6-2. In the next round Errani and the Austrian coached by Francesca Schiavone will face the couple number 7 on the draw, the Australian Ellen Perez and the Dutch Demi Schuurs.
