Donald Trump’s decline in the polls continues. According to the latest survey by the American Research Group (ARG), the US president’s approval rating has fallen to 30%, while 66% of Americans do not approve of his actions. A month ago the same institute recorded 31% approval and 64% negative opinions.

The American Research Group survey

The survey was conducted between 16 and 20 June on 1,100 adult citizens, with a margin of error of approximately 3 percentage points. This is the lowest value ever reached by Trump in this series of polls: the same institute gave him 38% in June 2025 and 31% in May. The opinion on the economy is even more critical, a theme considered central in view of the 2026 mid-term elections: only 26% approve the president’s economic management, against 70% who reject it (in May it was 29% against 67%).

What the poll averages say

However, the Arg data is placed at the lower end compared to the other surveys. Averages from major aggregators place Trump higher: the average of New York Times indicates 39% approval and 59% disapproval, while CNN’s “Poll of Polls”, referring to the polls between 8 and 19 June, records 37% approval and 61% negative opinions. Other institutes – including NPR/PBS/Marist and Ap-Norc – also place approval at around 36-37%. Even with different values, the picture is homogeneous: in all surveys the negative opinions outweigh the positive ones.

The causes and the White House’s response

Several analysts link the decline to economic pessimism and the increase in prices, including fuel, linked to tensions with Iran. According to the Arg, the erosion of consensus would now also affect the Republican electorate, which has fallen to 67%. However, the White House has reduced the weight of the polls: “The definitive poll was that of November 5, 2024”, declared spokesperson Davis Ingle, according to whom the administration’s policies “are producing results” and “this is just the beginning”.
