He took the “Ponte dossier” back into his hands. Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini brought together the leaders of the “Strait of Messina” at the MIT yesterday to take stock of the “state of the art”, after a particularly delicate phase, punctuated by the news regarding the launch of a double investigation, by the Prosecutor’s Office of Catanzaro and Rome, which involved the former deputy president of the Court of Auditors, Tommaso Miele, the Calabrian entrepreneur Virgiglio and the former member of the Board of Directors of the “Strait”, Giacomo Francesco Saccomanno.
The process of the Bridge has never stopped, say the MIT and the “Strait”. And yesterday’s meeting in Rome, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Transport, was focused above all on the discussions between the Italian Government and the European Union, one of the key elements, as highlighted by the accounting judges in the provision denying the registration and publication of the Cipess resolution of 6 August 2025. Discussions which, as stated in the note issued by the MIT, «continue positively both with regard to the Habitat directive and the directives on public contracts in relation to compliance with the known limit of 50% of the contract value”. These are two points of fundamental importance for the continuation of the procedures. The Government maintains that for a year, on both fronts, it has been working in concert with the EU Commission, and this is also demonstrated by the fact that from Europe, despite a deluge of complaints and complaints from environmentalist associations, political forces and MEPs, “the possibility of starting an infringement procedure has never been taken into consideration”.
