The meeting-debate “Rights to the Sea, Rights of the Sea”, promoted by the Circolo Territoriale VAS Rende-Cosenza, the first appointment of the Tirreno d’AMare Festival dei Sensi, took place with widespread public participation at the Grand Hotel delle Terme Luigiane. The President of the VAS-APS Pino Boccia moderated the debate and immediately left the floor for the initial greetings to the director of the Grand Hotel delle Terme, Valentina Pulzella, and
to the artistic director of the Tirreno d’AMare – Festival dei Sensi, Giusy Caruso, who underlined the role of culture as a driver of valorization of the territory, highlighting how cultural tourism can contribute to creating a new awareness on the relationship between community, environment and identity of places. The initiative brought together scholars, professionals and representatives of the world of culture to reflect on the value of the sea as a heritage to be protected and a strategic resource for the sustainable development of Calabria.
Prestigious guests such as Ferdinando Laghi, Francesco Sesso, Carlo Tansi spoke, offering points of view on the topics of protection of the marine ecosystem, health, scientific research and promotion of coastal heritage.
During the evening, Gilda De Caro was also awarded the Tirreno d’AMare 2026 Culture Award, in recognition of her contribution to the diffusion and valorization of the local culture. To close the evening the bagpipe notes of Domenico Iacovo.
The meeting confirmed the importance of creating opportunities for discussion between institutions, the scientific world and cultural operators, so that the defense of the sea becomes a shared commitment and a central element in the development strategies of the Riviera dei Cedri and the whole of Calabria.
