Its origins date back to the Byzantine period, but the current complex was built in the 13th century. The building has undergone numerous modifications and expansions over the centuries, particularly under the Aragonese domination, from which it takes its name. Its strategic position and the strength of its walls made it a military and political reference point during various historical periods. The Castle is was the historic residence of the Naselli d’Aragona family, one of the most important noble families of Sicily, who governed the city of Comiso from 1453 to 1816.
