Bruno Zanin, Venetian actor who played Titta Biondi in Federico Fellini’s ‘Amarcord’, dies at age 73. He had also been a war reporter and humanitarian activist and had been living in Piedmont for about ten years. His career in cinema began by chance with Fellini who chose him after noticing him while he was accompanying an extra to Cinecittà. He later worked with Luca Ronconi and Giorgio Strehler in the works of Carlo Goldoni. Among his films are ‘A man, a city’ by Romolo Guerrieri, ‘The proof of love’ by Tiziano Longo, ‘The first time, on the grass’ by Gianluigi Calderone, ‘The police have their hands tied’ by Luciano Ercoli, ‘The mistress is a servant’ by Mario Lanfranchi, and ‘The good soldier’ by Franco Brusati.
In 1992 Zanin left the cinema and became a war correspondent, covering the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina for three years as a collaborator of Vatican Radio. During those years, as head of the NGO Emmaus International of Abbè Pierre, he brought humanitarian aid to the city of Gradaac. He later wrote articles and reports for Corriere della Sera, Famiglia Cristiana, Der Spiegel.
