«The first thing I will do as president? Establish a social department”. The newly elected governor of Veneto Alberto Stefani said this while answering journalists’ questions. «On this point, which is the first point of the government programme, obviously distinct from the health department, I want to invest a lot because I believe that social issues are the challenge of the future – he continued – the society of the future will be a longer-lived society and therefore this circumstance must be taken into account to guarantee social-welfare services to a population that will age more and more and which must dutifully be given attention with equipped RSAs, with inclusive neighbourhoods, inclusive villages, with social-welfare and territorial services within reach at hand, early childhood services, educational services”.

“I will be president of Veneto and no longer regional secretary because when you become president of Veneto you take care of this extraordinary territory and the Venetians.” Thus again the newly elected governor of Veneto Alberto Stefani. Regarding his position as federal deputy secretary, he explained that “any evaluation is up to Salvini”.

«I hope that Zaia will remain in the Regional Council – continued the new president – and in the team not for the next 5 years, but for the next 30 years. It may be his choice, but he has made an extraordinary contribution and written the history of the last 15 years of Veneto and we will continue to write it together.”

Zaia: “Abstentionism is the biggest opponent”

«I think I was the only one from the beginning to raise the issue of the great adversary we all had, namely abstentionism, which then materialized. Sixteen points and even more compared to 2020 really means a lot.” This is how the outgoing president of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia comments on the outcome of the vote.

“I can’t say the future. But I will go to the regional council”

I will certainly be in the regional council. I can’t say the future. But anyway I will go to the regional council.” Thus the outgoing president of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia, commenting on the outcome of the vote, was keen to point out that he will first and foremost make a choice of “consistency” with respect to his leading candidacy in all the provinces.
