Another strong earthquake, of magnitude 5.5, hit the central-western coast of Japan this morning: the National Meteorological Agency reports it on its website. No tsunami warnings were issued. The new earthquake was recorded at 10:54 local time (2:54 in Italy) in the Noto region, in the Ishikawa prefecture, at a depth of 10 km. For the moment there are no reports of further victims, injuries or damage.

The death toll from the earthquake that struck central Japan on New Year’s Day has risen to 62: the local authorities made it known. More than 300 people were injured, 20 of them seriously, an official from Ishikawa prefecture said.
