Canada beats Chile 2-1 and gives Italy a nice gift: tomorrow, against Sweden, the Azzurri will only need to win one match to reach the Davis Cup Finals scheduled for next November in Malaga. On the fast track of the Unipol Arena in Bologna, Alexis Galarneau beats Alejandro Tabilo in two sets – 6-3 7-6(5) -, then Nicolas Jarry’s 6-4 6-4 over Gabriel Diallo allows Chile to equalize the score but in the doubles Galarneau and Pospisil beat Barrios Vera and Tabilo 6-3 7-6(7) and so Canada goes first in group A. After Canada, the Czech Republic, Serbia and the Netherlands, the fifth qualified for the Finals in Malaga is the ‘Australia, 28 times winner of the Davis Cup. The kangaroos beat Switzerland 3-0 without giving up a single set: Thanasi Kokkinakis’ 6-3 7-5 victory over Dominic Stricker was followed by the 6-4 6-3 with which Alex De Minaur defeated Marc -Andrea Huesler. But to obtain mathematical qualification for Australia, the victory in doubles was also needed, sanctioned by Mattheew Ebden and Max Purcell over Marc-Andrea Huesler and Dominic Stricker: 6-2 6-4 the final score in just 73 minutes of play.
