A Russian spy ship is currently bordering UK territorial waters, Defense Secretary John Healey has announced, noting that it is the second time the vessel, the Yantar, has been deployed in UK waters.
“A Russian spy ship, the Yantar, is on the edge of British waters north of Scotland, having entered wider UK waters in recent weeks,” Healey said at a press conference in Downing Street, as reported by Sky News.
The minister explained that it is a vessel designed to collect information and map underwater cables. “We deployed a Royal Navy frigate and RAF aircraft to monitor and track this vessel’s every movement, during which the Yantar aimed lasers at our pilots,” he warned.
