Venezuela, appeal to release frozen funds

The appeal – reports the AFP agency – was launched by Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto during a meeting with representatives of the United Nations and international partners. The head of Venezuelan diplomacy invited all countries that hold resources belonging to the Venezuelan state to initiate a plan for their release, so that they can be used for reconstruction interventions and assistance to the affected population.

International sanctions and reconstruction after the earthquake

According to Caracas, accounts and funds attributable to the Venezuelan state remain frozen in several countries due to international sanctions, defined by the government as “illegal”. The authorities argue that the unlocking of these resources would allow us to accelerate the recovery of infrastructure and support for communities affected by the most serious natural disaster to have affected the country in recent decades.
