The Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said to consider Hamas as «liberators» fighting for their land and decided to cancel the plan to visit Israel.
Ankara’s strongman denounced the Jewish state’s war against Gaza as “inhuman”. “We had a plan to go to Israel, but it was cancelled, we won’t go,” Erdogan told parliamentarians from the ruling party.
«I only once in my life shook hands with a certain Neyanyahu. Where? At our home, for education (Turkish Cultural Center in New York last September ed.)” said Erdogan announcing the cancellation of preparations for the trip, announced in recent months as part of the process of rapprochement between the two countries which has continued for two years. «We had good intentions, but they all went down the drain. We were planning to go to Israel, but we won’t go there. Half of the Palestinian victims are children, plus women and the elderly. A massacre that is reaching the dimensions of a genocide”, he added.
Salvini: Erdogan’s words are serious, Tajani should summon ambassador
Turkish President Erdogan’s words about Hamas “are serious and disgusting and do not help de-escalation”. The deputy prime minister and minister of Infrastructure and Transport says so Matteo Salvini who adds: “I will propose to my colleague Tajani to send a formal protest and to summon the Turkish ambassador”. This was announced in a note by the deputy prime minister’s staff.
Did Salvini ask to summon the Turkish ambassador after Erdogan’s words on Hamas? “I will listen to the ideas and positions of the deputy prime minister but as regards the position of the Italian government, Hamas is a terrorist organization.” The deputy prime minister and foreign minister says so Antonio Tajani talking to reporters.
