Francavilla di Sicilia: free theatrical workshops at the Mafra Museum to bring children closer to archeology

Al MAFRA DI FRANCAVILLA DI SICILY Museumarcheology chooses the language of theater for the project “The myth is staged at the museum”free acting workshops inspired by the myth and findsdedicated to children and financed by Naxos Taormina Archaeological Park of the Sicilian Region.

From March to Junein fact, the Archaeological Museum Ma.fra of Francavilla di Sicilia – Cogestito from Park and from Common – hosts eight theatrical workshops Theme: from Demetra and Persephone to Heraclesfrom Aphrodite to Artemistaking inspiration from the same museum finds, conceived as “Stories activators”. A project by the Association Drachmamanager of the additional services of the Mafra Museum thanks to an agreement signed with the Park and the Common.

The coordination is entrusted toArchaeologist Grazia Salamonepresident of Dracma and specialized in museum teachingand two professional actors, Graziana Parisi And Daniele Segalin (Theater Degart), with a long experience in Creative contemporary theater and in the theatrical pedagogy.

To conclude the meetings, the June 7thit will be the production of one original show in which children will guide their families to discover the museum, telling and staged the subject they chose among the mythological figures. The calendar of appointments is as follows: 15 and 22 March, April 26, 3, 10, 17 and 31 May, 7 June. The meetings last two hours and are intended for children among the 7 and 10 years age.

Each laboratory provides Three main phases. The first phase is the Tour of the Museum in search of materials “Stories activators”Between pìnakes (votive terracotta squares), Antefixes, statuettes, ceramic fragments and coins. The second phase is dedicated to story for imageswith material and iconographic sources, readings aloud to involve the participants. Finally, the theater workshopwith exercises of scenic movement, physical and vocal improvisationcare of the Gesture, mimicry and action.

The Archaeological Museum of Francavilla di Sicilia (Ma.fra) was made in 2020 thanks to an agreement between the Naxos Taormina Archaeological Park and the Municipality of Francavilla di Sicilia.
